The Gracious Host

Christmas, no doubt, is the season of celebrations and get-togethers. It's the best time to invite friends and family over for cheers, laughter, and merry-making. After all, the best way to spend the holidays is through for good food and good company.

As much fun as it is to celebrate with your loved ones, planning and hosting a party—even intimate ones—can be an overwhelming job for one. But what does it take to be a great host? Serving a decadent menu? Setting up a grand tablescape? In reality, A LOT. Yet it all comes down to one rule: Knowing what works for you and your guests and their preferences.

Here we break down simple tips to help you host a memorable soiree for your dearest family and friends. No professional skills required, just a bit of patience, creativity, and fine pieces for your lovely spread.

Like any special event, hosting brunch or dinner parties come with a lot of planning. From the guest list, theme, menu, decors, down to the littlest details, it is beneficial to plan everything ahead of time—not just for you but for your guests as well. Ideally, a month long preparation is required to make sure your guests can include your event in their schedules especially if they live far away from your home. It also allows you to get to know their food preferences and allergies before curating a menu.

There's no such thing as the perfect plan. Last minute changes are to be expected on the day itself. A great host is well-prepared and flexible for any kind of situations. Whether changes on head count or wine choices, always prepare buffers and options you can use. Having an emergency kit within reach is also important especially when you're expecting children around.

When it comes to hosting holiday parties at home, the dining table is and will always be the center of attention. No matter what the theme is, the table should dazzle all senses to make your event remarkable. Thus, it's the perfect time to use your best-kept dining ensemble, candles, flatware, fine porcelains, and glassware. And if in doubt, shopping for new sets is always a good idea.

Keep in mind that your table setting should be as lovely as the meal you're serving. With a beautiful setup and great food, you're sure to make a lasting impression on your guests.

A Christmas party is not complete without gift-giving. Go the extra mile and wrap your gifts beautifully or in theme with your party. A little extra effort that will fill your loved ones with so much joy.

Pro-tip: Make your party unforgettable by giving simple party favors to your guests.
